Chairperson’s Report-Late Fall

I hope that everyone had a great start to the new school year!  We are now very much into the thick of the Fall season.  Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about the holiday season and all of the concerts and performances that go with it.  I want to start by saying it was wonderful for me to meet so many of you at our Fall general membership meeting.  It is always great to have that time to catch up, socialize, and hear what other music programs in our area are up to.

I wanted to remind all of you to check our district website frequently for updates on auditions, festivals, and other happenings in our district.  The board has made some adjustments to our limits, as well as other important audition requirements.  These updates are all available at http://semmea.org.  In addition, if you have any announcements, job openings, or other information should go on the website, please email Dave Berry.  In addition, Dave would like to know if any old postings need to come down (if a job opening has been filled, etc.)

In an effort to improve our web-presence and communication across the district, I have started a chairperson’s blog.  I will be posting useful information, as well as initiating discussions about our festivals, All-State, and other topics in music education.  The site is http://semusic.edublogs.org.  Please check it out and see what is there.

This year, we will be holding elections for our executive board positions.  We have openings for Chairperson-Elect, Secretary, Choral Representative, Instrumental Representative, and General Music/Elementary Representative.  We will be accepting nominations for these positions up through mid-December.  Members will be voting through our website.  You will be required to enter your MENC ID Number and select whichever candidate you wish for the positions.

We are well under way in planning for this year’s Senior and Junior Festivals.  We have a fabulous slate of conductors for all ensembles.  The Senior Festival will be held at Brockton High School on January 9 &10.  Thank You to Vincent Macrina, Jon Munroe and the staff at Brockton High School for coming forward and offering to host this year.  The Junior Festival will be held at Attleboro High School on March 6 & 7.  Thanks also to Gary Hyman and the staff at Attleboro High School for hosting our Junior Festival this year.  If your school wishes to host either the Senior or Junior Festival in future, please feel free to contact me or any member of the board.  It’s never too early to secure a location.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season.  Enjoy the time with your friends and family.  I hope to see all of you at our District Festivals, All-State, and All-Eastern.

Best wishes,

John
